Effathà, was born as “Association of Families of People with Disabilities” and it aims at “building a home for these people”, young and not so young, marked by the same fate.

As parents, we felt the need to guarantee a peaceful future to our children. We strongly felt the need to assure them the support of the family. Over the years, we won’t be able to attend to their needs and necessities and then, one day, we will not be with them anymore.  This is the reason why there is an urgent need to create a social and care reality different from the health care supports that we used to know. It not only deals with material cares but also readiness and affection.

In compliance with the social and health care regulations, it deals with setting up a family health care i.e. ,starting from the family, it extends to the external staff for ensuring its continuity. This bond of blood and the affection are the real glue that allows the community to overcome every obstacle and, at the same time, to guarantee to people with disabilities dignified lives and attentive to their problems and demands. Jeane Vanier of the Ark community asserts:  the desire to make homes – not institutions but family backgrounds homes … where people with disabilities and carers can experience the joy and the difficulties of a community life.

Effathà  Association will be made up of families with one or more persons with disabilities. It aims at building realities that give our beloved the opportunity to go on living in an environment that respects their diversity and accepts them as people who are part of the society. It will undertake to promote, plan and organize activities that disseminate information and training about the disability world. IT WILL BE A NO-PROFIT ASSOCIATION.
