The choir Matteo Peru, born in the fifties thanks to teacher Peru, has resumed under the guidance of its founder, its activity in the first half of the last decade of the last century and it will continue a singing tradition born with the great singer Giuseppe Andrea Peru and his son Matteo.

The purpose of our choir is simple: take the old tunes, bring them back to the purity and the genuine simplicity of the origins, eliminating as much as possible those deviations and erroneous interpretations that, during the time, have been introduced in the songs of Aggius tradition, sometimes distorting the very essence.
Therefore, without neglecting the profane songs in the footsteps of previous choirs, the religious songs of the whole liturgical year are followed with great commitment. In fact, Giuseppe Andrea Peru, with his choir sang praying and prayed singing and his son Matteo with his choir has followed his father’s footsteps; the new choir Matteo Peru goes on the same path.
We chose as a symbol the song titled “Brunedda“, now also performed by most of Tasgia choirs of Sardinia, but that only at Aggius finds its most genuine and authentic interpretation.

The Associazione Culturale Coro Matteo Peru has been organizing since three years a cultural-musical event that aims at celebrating the role of the teacher Matteo Peru, defined by the Cultural Department of the town of Nuoro, as “Master of Folklore” This event is hold every year in May at the Marugnò Multifunctional Centre. It involves debates and discussions about the ethnomusicology, guest choirs performances and the awarding of a prize to people who have distinguished themselves for their studies and research in historical music.
